31st Jan 2010: My iMac is sick

Came to office and discovered my iMac is unwell. Not sure if she is in a coma or she merely fainted. But I am definitely cheesed off. I'm supposed to run a back up today and she's in a coma... Wanted to fret, grumble, bitch and everything nasty.

But strangely Mother Teresa came into my mind!

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

When 2 yellow bananas went hill climbing.

One fine Sunday, 2 yellow bananas decided to climb some hills. The usual works of breakfast and it was off to 2 cool hills about 20 minutes away from KL - Genting Highlands and Fraser Hill

Cool and barely any traffic it was fun zipping around.

The S2000 was graceful. But beneath the graceful looks was a huge voice. This happy occupant actually wore ear plugs when we drove topless. And just before your mind elsewhere...topless here refers to us driving with the top down!

The other yellow banana was all grace and power. For the Cayman S it was an effortless climb up and down the hill and fast on the straights. Johnson definitely had his fun and the plus factor of having it manual. Yes, you read it right. Johnson's Cayman S is a manual. Manual is real fun as real drivers will tell you!

In between, the humans have to eat too. And we discovered some delightful bites in Gohtong Jaya that I'll share in the next post.

As usual, there will be pictures...Do enjoy the pictures. I had much fun during the day out with the 2 yellow bananas and I hope the pictures convey the fun I had. Not much pics during the drive but pics were a must wherever we stopped.

the boys just needed to exchange notes at every stop.

Evil duo abusing poodle

This video was uploaded on YouTube and is circulating like hot fire. Nothing amazing. Its just a very sick video of the poodle being abused by a man and being videoed by an equally sick person.

The online community cannot take such atrocity. Neither can any community or anyone who is sane. The animals or as I fondly call them furkids each have their own talents and abilities. To subject the poor furkid to such abuses and punches is just NOT right. And even if one wants to teach the furkid to beg i.e. stand on his or her hips, not every furkid can do it. Its just like not every human can walk with their hands or do splits.

It would seem now that they have narrowed it down to 2 possible suspects. A particular Allan Tan and a Doreen Loo. This is based on a fair bit of work amongst the FB citizens.

And to keep in touch with updates on the following links:

Folks, if you're reading this and you know who this people are, please reveal them. We cannot allow them to continue abusing animals in pretext of "training" the dogs to sit on their bums. The poodle it seems is dead and now this Doreen Loo has a shihtzu.

I scrolled down to her profile and found the following post. So who is Edwin? Her new dog? Her new boyfriend. It really does not matter but we need justice to be done. And we need such evil people locked up.

And while we are there, this is what our Malaysian law provides for animal abuse:
Section 44 of The Animal Ordinance, 1953 states the penalty for cruelty to animals as below 44.
(1) Any person who -
(a) cruelly beats, kicks, ill-treats, over-rides, over-drives, overloads, tortures, infuriates or terrifies any animal; or
(b) causes or procures or, being the owner, permits any animal to be so used; or
(c) being in charge of any animal in confinement or in course of transport from one place to another neglects to supply such animal with sufficient food or water; or
(d) by wantonly or unreasonably doing or omitting to do any act, causes any unnecessary pain or suffering, or, being the owner, permits any unnecessary pain or suffering to any animal; or
(e) causes, procures or, being the owner, permits to be confined, conveyed, lifted or carried any animal in such manner or position as to subject it to unnecessary pain or suffering; or
(f) employs or causes or procures or, being the owner, permits to be employed in any work or labour, any animal which in consequence of any disease, infirmity, wound or sore, or otherwise is unfit to be so employed; or
(g) causes, procures or assists at the fighting or baiting of any animal, or keeps, uses, manages, or acts or assists in the management of any premises or place for the purpose, or partly for the purpose, of fighting or baiting any animal, or permits any premises or place to be so kept, managed or used, or receives or causes or procures any person to receive, money for the admission of any person to such premises or place, shall be guilty of an offence of cruelty and shall be liable to a fine of two hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term of six months or to both.

Really I think it is insufficient. We need more changes to animal rights!

And we need to be vigilant and play our part to prevent animal abuse. We must stand up and bring to public the cases of animal abuse. Little by little. A little by everyone, we will make a positive change to the conditions of animal abuse in Malaysia or animal abuse in any country.

A final reminder. Do not take justice into your own hands. Let the laws deal with the evil people (no matter how insufficient the laws are) and yes let the higher forces or God or the laws of nature deal with them in the due course.

Le Porc Dor- pork satay galore

I've not visited Hutong for a couple of months for dinner. Thank goodness to the notorious no appointment needed KL traffic, we ended up in Hutong Lot 10 for dinner. And the usual me will have my pork noodles, beef noodles, wantan mee and orchien for sure.

Quite contended with dinner, I was making plans to head down to Dessert Brother for dessert. But someone walked pass and stopped. He asked if we wanted satay. Hmmm..."We have pork satay and chicken satay".

PORK SATAY!!!

Now that is new! Yes I want my pork satay. Half a dozen please. And since we were on it, we decided that some sugar cane water will be good to cool us down.

The wait begins...pork satay fasterlah.

Satay arrived in 5 minutes or so. It did look promising and definitely tasted superb. It was juicy inside. Well marinated with a subtle hint of lemongrass - I love it to bits. 6 sticks for RM10.50 was a good deal. I could not get enough of it so another plate was required:D

The satay sauce is generous with peanuts. Thick and tasty you want to have more of it.

Ooops, there are 2 satay stall in Hutong. This porky one is sitting behind Sun Moulin. The stall that says Kajang satay in behind Mr Bao is not the stall that I am referring to.

Valentine's Day Bento @ Nagomi

Valentine's Day is round the corner? For many it means just another day. For others its just another $¥£ day of eating out and buying flowers, gifts etc etc.

Feeq invited me for a review at Nagomi Jaya33 for a taste of their Lover's Bento set. First impression, the place looks nice and cozy. Very polite crew on duty. I looked at the flyer...it did look good. and at RM99++ its certainly an affordable not overkill priced dinner including dessert. But's let's reserve judgement until we taste the food.

The Bento set arrived and I was quite awed by the whole works. Looks good.

Hmmm I was a bit lost as to where should I start first. I've always started with salads first. But the sashimi looks superb. The grilled prawns inviting. The soft shell crab soba salada was screaming "come eat me". It didn't help that that the Suzuki Senbei was just as tantalising. Choices!

I quickly decided that I would start with the salad and the soft shell crab salada. The salad dip is amazing! The soba (buckwheat noodles) was cooked just nice and topped with a generous amount of soft shell crab. Yummy.

Sashimi...I always loved sashimi. And when its done up nicely and artistically like these rose shaped ones, they make it even more inviting. A combination of salmon and tuna topped with とびこtobiko (flying fish roe), these spell I LOVE YOU and look good. And was certainly fresh. Bravo!!!

Next was the Suzuki Senbei. These crispy sea bass crackers are flavourful. A dash of lime (a matter of preference) add more kick to the crackers. But because I still had that yummy salad sauce left, I was literally dipping my crackers into the sauce. *Grin*

King Prawn with white sauce is grilled king prawn with cheese and mayonnaise. I liked the cheese but the mayonnaise was a wee too much for my personal liking. But the prawn was nevertheless very flavourful and may have you craving for more.

Last to be devoured was the Love Sushi Roll with strawberry and avocado in it. Nice twist to the sushi rolls that we generally know. This was creamy and had the the happy strawberry taste to it. This Love Sushi Roll definitely stuffed me up.

And I thought I would be too full for the dessert. When the Chocolate Cheese Brownie arrived, I went yummssss. I can't cheese. Neither can I resist chocolate:P

All in all I was stuffed. Very very stuffed from the Lover's Bento Set at RM99++

And since it Chinese New Year is round the corner, the folks at Nagomi treated us to yee sang. This is not your regular yee sang. Its definitely a very sashimi driven yee sang with 4 types of fishes i.e. salmon, tuna, amberjack and sea bass. This is accompanied with Nagomi's special sauce. What was unique was we had cornflakes as part of the condiments for the yee sang. Yeah healthy yummy cornflakes that had Esther asking "Can I have more cornflakes please".

A tip is not to put too much of the 5 spice powder mix as it is quite potent:P

So there were we doing our lou sang and wishing for more good health, more good food, more good company, better pictures, more money etc etc etc... This gorgeous picture is from pal Andrew.
And if you're at Nagomi for your Lover's Bento between 11th to 14th February, why not add on the yee sang. A toss to a prosperous year ahead with your beloved is certainly auspicious:D Yee Sang is priced:
• RM48 for 2 pax
• RM88 for 6 pax
Yee Sang is also available for takeway!

So swing by to Nagomi for your Valentine's day and Chinese New Year do!

OMG, Shakespeare & Cancer

OMG, Shakespeare and chemotherapy. These 3 things have nothing in common.

But come 26th, 27th and 29th January 2011, these 3 things are all about fund raising for children who need financial assistance for the chemotherapy treatment.

The KDU Pre-U department is organising a charity play entitled O.M.G. which stands for Oh My Girl! which is a comedy musical play adaptated from Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Screw". This play is to benefit children with cancer who require chemotherapy treatment. Proudly a students' production, the play will be held at the newly renovated Auditorium at KDU University College Damansara Jaya Campus.

All profits go to the Children Cancer Fund or also known as Tabung Kanser Kanak-kanak which is under the guardian of Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) also known as Univeristy Malaya Medical Centre (MMUC).

Do you know that a cancer stricken child need at least RM6000 for each cycle of chemotherapy. And we all know that cancer is not cured with one session of chemo. It takes more. The Children Cancer Fund offers financial assistance to financially disadvantaged children aged as young as 6 months to 17 year old. The child is innocent and cancer should not rob the child of his life or chance at life merely because he can't afford his surgery and chemotherapy treatments.

So I urge everyone to purchase at least a ticket (very affordable) from the 3 shows below:
Date: 26 Jan 2011 (Wednesday)
Time: 2pm
Price: RM15

Date: 27 Jan 2011 (Thursday)
Time: 7pm
Price: RM15

Date: 29 Jan 2011 (Saturday)
Time: 7pm
Price: RM100/200
Preview screenings on the 26th and 27th January is a smart casual event. The screening on the 29th January is a black tie event inclusive of a 3 course Italian dinner. tables are available at RM800 and RM1600 with 8 seats on each table.

For more information and tickets, you may call:
• Kelvin Hong +6016 7536 798
• Yi Lyn           +6017 4060 677

This is an awesome cause and for those planning their reunion dinner amongst friends and families on Saturday 29th January 2011, why not take a table for your reunion. You get a good time from the play, good dinner and most of all, its all for a good cause. These kids will appreciate and be very thankful for your kind assistance that will give them a chance in their fight against CANCER.

Have a look at the following links to get a better idea of the event and its good cause:
