Evil duo abusing poodle

This video was uploaded on YouTube and is circulating like hot fire. Nothing amazing. Its just a very sick video of the poodle being abused by a man and being videoed by an equally sick person.

The online community cannot take such atrocity. Neither can any community or anyone who is sane. The animals or as I fondly call them furkids each have their own talents and abilities. To subject the poor furkid to such abuses and punches is just NOT right. And even if one wants to teach the furkid to beg i.e. stand on his or her hips, not every furkid can do it. Its just like not every human can walk with their hands or do splits.

It would seem now that they have narrowed it down to 2 possible suspects. A particular Allan Tan and a Doreen Loo. This is based on a fair bit of work amongst the FB citizens.

And to keep in touch with updates on the following links:

Folks, if you're reading this and you know who this people are, please reveal them. We cannot allow them to continue abusing animals in pretext of "training" the dogs to sit on their bums. The poodle it seems is dead and now this Doreen Loo has a shihtzu.

I scrolled down to her profile and found the following post. So who is Edwin? Her new dog? Her new boyfriend. It really does not matter but we need justice to be done. And we need such evil people locked up.

And while we are there, this is what our Malaysian law provides for animal abuse:
Section 44 of The Animal Ordinance, 1953 states the penalty for cruelty to animals as below 44.
(1) Any person who -
(a) cruelly beats, kicks, ill-treats, over-rides, over-drives, overloads, tortures, infuriates or terrifies any animal; or
(b) causes or procures or, being the owner, permits any animal to be so used; or
(c) being in charge of any animal in confinement or in course of transport from one place to another neglects to supply such animal with sufficient food or water; or
(d) by wantonly or unreasonably doing or omitting to do any act, causes any unnecessary pain or suffering, or, being the owner, permits any unnecessary pain or suffering to any animal; or
(e) causes, procures or, being the owner, permits to be confined, conveyed, lifted or carried any animal in such manner or position as to subject it to unnecessary pain or suffering; or
(f) employs or causes or procures or, being the owner, permits to be employed in any work or labour, any animal which in consequence of any disease, infirmity, wound or sore, or otherwise is unfit to be so employed; or
(g) causes, procures or assists at the fighting or baiting of any animal, or keeps, uses, manages, or acts or assists in the management of any premises or place for the purpose, or partly for the purpose, of fighting or baiting any animal, or permits any premises or place to be so kept, managed or used, or receives or causes or procures any person to receive, money for the admission of any person to such premises or place, shall be guilty of an offence of cruelty and shall be liable to a fine of two hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term of six months or to both.

Really I think it is insufficient. We need more changes to animal rights!

And we need to be vigilant and play our part to prevent animal abuse. We must stand up and bring to public the cases of animal abuse. Little by little. A little by everyone, we will make a positive change to the conditions of animal abuse in Malaysia or animal abuse in any country.

A final reminder. Do not take justice into your own hands. Let the laws deal with the evil people (no matter how insufficient the laws are) and yes let the higher forces or God or the laws of nature deal with them in the due course.

Lamb fudge tempter

Baked some lamb fudge last night for Shalom's 2011 new year getaway trip to the beach. This is an easy to make and definitely yummy treats. Actually we use this a fair bit for our daily play and trainings. And because they are slightly moist, they make good treats during outings as it is another source of hydration for the furkids rather than dry treats such as Polly Pumpkin.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30-40 minutes (depending on your oven)

Ingredients:
• 400g ground lamb
• 1/2 teaspoon of chopped garlic / rosemary
• 120g carrots / pumpkin
• 300ml of water or milk (milk gives it a creamier consistency and does not seem to be a problem for Shalom who is lactose intolerant)(and we now opt for Goat's milk)
• 400g flour (rice flour or wheat flour)
• 1 large egg (optional)

We made 2 pans this round - one pan being garlic carrot and the other being rosemary pumpkin

Chopped up or slice the carrots and pumpkins, whichever your preference. I like them chopped because I am lazy. I just dropped them all into the chopper.

Transfer to a large bowl. Mix flour, garlic / rosemary, lamb, carrots / pumpkin, milk / water and the optional egg in the bowl. Combine till is a watery texture. If a wee dry, add more water or milk.

Optional: replace some of the flour with oats so that it has a stiffer and chewier texture.

Pour ingredients into an oiled baking pan.

Preheat oven.

Baked at 180C at 30-40 minutes.

Check that is is cooked by inserting a toothpick through. If it comes out clean, its cooked. if not, popped it in for another 2-3 minutes or so.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

I generally cut it into cubes for Shalom at home. However for gatherings, I normally cut them into smaller bits. Don't want any furkid choking as a result of gobbling their food.

They keep one week in the fridge. I normally keep them in tubs and freeze them till they are needed:D

It smells lovely even to my nose. So I normally would nibble on some. Be warned...no salt or sugar, so its just flavours from the ingredients and nothing more.

And here's the 2 pans all sliced and packed ready for Shalom's 2011 new year countdown getaway.

Polly Pumpkin

I've been baking non stop since last Sunday for Shalom's birthday picnic. Reason I've been baking is that I really would like Shalom and her friends to have some home made wholesome goodness minus the preservatives, colouring & flavouring. And of course since I'm making them myself, I've also been using organic as much as I can.

Well after last night I think I want to bake something that Shalom has not tasted before. So far for the birthday party pack (all of which are her regular treats at home), we've made:
• Flea Busters
• Peanut Butter Banana Squares
• Salmon Bombs
• Italian Sweethearts
* I say "we" cause hubby helps out. Not in the kitchen but I can count to ferry me around to pick up the ingredients needed from all over town:D

So I've decided to come out with something new based on my previous ingredients and experience of baking over 6 years for my diva. And I shall call this Polly Pumpkin. Why Polly? I don't know. It just came into my mind:P

Ingredients:
• 150g Oats
• 150g pumpkin
• 150ml yoghurt
• 1 egg
• cold water (use as needed to create a slightly sticky consistency)
• 3 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
• Dash of Italian herbs or cinnamon or garlic (whichever tickles your fancy)

Mix all ingredients together until you get a sticky mix. Add or use less water as needed to get the consistency.

Then grease your baking pan lightly. Place the balls on it and pressed it with a fork or spoon. I like to use forks because i can make patterns with it:D

Bake at 160C for 20-25 minutes until light brown (monitor this closely as different ovens behave differently)

The results will be a slightly chewy cookie because of the oats. If you like the crunchier, just leave them in the oven another 15-30 minutes when you're done baking. I normally make 2 pans so Shalom gets both chewy and crunchy ones.

Dogs love the natural sweetness of pumpkin and its filled with vitamins & minerals.

And if you like to adapt the above for humans, well you can add cinnamon and use sugar to taste. Adding some sunflower seeds into it gives it an added crunch and oomph!

Durian durians and more durians

The flesh
The thorny fruit
Honestly, you either love durians to bits. Or hate it like its gonna kill you.

I fall within the I hate it category. And I am amaze that some folks can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its not as suggested by the following bannerat Donald's in SS2 but seriously my mum can have it for all 3 meals in a day.
However, there will be the days that the cravings for it come. It has nothing to do with the time of the month or being pregnant. Its just cravings. Amusing cravings that has my hubby smiling from ear to ear simply because if he attempts eating durians on his own or with Shalom our furkid, both will have to sleep in the living room. Yea, I hate the scent that much. It does kinda remind me of garbage.

But when the cravings come, its no biggie. Most days, I just have 1 pip /1 seed. The cravings are never great enough to call for 1 whole fruit. But at least for hubby and Shalom, it means they get to eat durians openly.

The recent cravings back to back was scary:P I ate some in Seremban on Wednesday and barely a week later, the cravings returned with a vengeance. I actually ate 8 seeds. Small matter to many but that is a super duper achievement as far as I am concerned. The last time I ate was some 8 months ago:P
I supposed the good company made the difference and the good grade too. See the different expressions when eating durian:
Min's finger licking good:D
Lilian looking quite pleased and savouring the 1st seed for the night.
Suherman is totally drawn into the whole explosion of wonderful texture and flavours.
Jo - I really can't make up what he was up to:P
Victor and his infamous かわい look
Jeff is all smiley despite having spent so many years in London
Belinda finds it absolutely divine!
Hubby was in heaven since he could officially eat durians that night.
There are far too many grades out there but I have been eating only the bitter and creamy ones. Never one with a sweet tooth, the bitter creamy ones are just superb. Yeah. Superb only the cravings hit me. LOL.

But some precautions when you eat:
• Don't mix it with alcohol. Different theories to it but some say it has something to do with getting yourself a stroke or a spike in your blood pressure.
• Wash your hands with the durian shell to remove the offending smell. I tried it and hmmm the smell went off and returned with a vengeance.
• Drink water or salt water out of the shell to reduce the heatiness. I normally just opt for cooling herbal tea or young green coconut. Actually I found the green coconut to be the most helpful:P
• Store leftover durians in the fridge. To prevent the smell from lingering in your fridge or car, place a piece of bread or charcoal in the fridge or car. When it comes to the car, I personally just open the doors and windows and sun the car:P

And a favourite left over dessert recipe which aids to remove the heatiness of the durian:
Green Bean with durian
• Ingredients - 200g green beans, Brown sugar (gula melaka) to taste, coconut milk, left over durian minus the seed, 1000ml of water (more or less depending on your preference for thick or light soupy finishing), pandan leaf and 100ml of coconut milk (optional unless you love the creamy milky feel similar to bubur cha cha).
• Method - (1) Wash the beans. (2) Soak the green beans in the water for 30 minutes to an hour. Then boil till soft. (3) Add the durians and pandan leaves. (4) Then add the brown sugar to taste. (5) Add coconut milk before serving. You may want to keep the coconut milk on the side so that one can opt to omit coconut milk or add more according to preference.

I know you can make durian puffs too. But I have not tried that yet. So will put that up when I have done so. Meanwhile enjoy the durian season:D

When will the next craving come? I seriously have no idea:P
